Black Dyke Band

Black Dyke Band are returning to Moldgreen on Saturday 30th September by popular demand. The concert will also feature soprano Martene Grimson.

Black Dyke Band, formerly John Foster & Son Black Dyke Mills Band, is one of the oldest and best-known brass bands in the world. The band has won many prizes and competitions over the years. In 2014, the band won the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain for a record 23rd time, and the British Open Championship for another record 30th time. They have also won the European Championships a record thirteen times, most recently in 2015. The band has a full and varied programme for 2017 both on the national and international stage. It is a privilege to be hosting them at Moldgreen URC.

Martene Grimson came to prominence after being awarded second prize in the Kathleen Ferrier Competition. Originally from Sydney Australia, she studied at Sydney Conservatorium before moving to London to study at the Royal College of Music’s Benjamin Britten Opera School and then at the National Opera Studio.

Martene has worked with Orchestras including Bayerischer Rundfunk, Orchester Wiener Akademie, Concerto Köln, Scottish Chamber Operchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the BBC Concert Orchestra and has sung under conductors such as Thierry Fischer, Frans Bruggen, Ulf Schirmer, Sir David Wilcocks, Pierre Cao ,Martin Haselböck, Antony Walker, Ian Page, Brian Kay and Nicolas Cleobury.
